Abstract: We examined the reach-scale distributions of three fish species to determine which biotic and abiotic factors are influential in the fishes
distributions.
Location(s), Described: The Ball Creek site starts approximately 15 meters above the confluence of Shope Fork and Ball Creek. The Ball Creek site extends upstream 150 meters. The first site on Shope Fork begins upstream of the first road bridge encountered after the confluence of Shope Fork and Ball Creek. This site extends upstream approximately 140 meters. The second site on Shope Fork begins 60 meters upstream from the end of site 1 and extends 150 meters.

Methods/Experimental Design: Within each of the 150m stream section, we used three-pass electroshocking to derive estimates of mean ( + SD) abundance for C. bairdi , R. cataractae, and O. mykiss. We placed block nets at the beginning and end of each reach to prevent emigration of the fish to adjacent reaches.
Sampling Frequency: We sampled in the spring, summer, and fall.
Data Columns: Year - Year Sampled
Seas - Season; (Spring 96 - (June 28), Summer 96 - (Aug 26-27), Fall 96 - (mid Nov))
Stream - Stream sampled; (Shope 1 - Stream section starting from bridge near wet lab up 150 m, Shope 2 - Stream section starting @ 210 m up from bridge near wet lab, Ball
Stream - section starting @ 20 m up from confluence of Ball and Shope Fork Creeks
Reach - Each stream section was broken up into channel units (reaches) usually @ 10-15m in length depending on natural breaks.
Cbden - Cottus Density; fish/m2
Rcden - Rhinichthy Density; fish/m2
Omden - Oncorhync Density; fish/m2
AVEPAR - Within each reach, multiple PAR readings were done along a transect - right side, mid stream, left side. These transect measurements were done every 2 meters of stream length within a reach and an average PAR reading was recorded for each reach using a Sunfleck Ceptometer.
ave invert - average invertebrate abundance
aveBOM - average organic matter
